Enjoyment in the Workplace

--Think of "enjoyment" as a Verb, an activity and an experience.  If you are aware of it, understand it, and take ownership of it then you can make it happen by leading it just like many other relationships within the enterprise.

How does it feel to be in flow?

  1. Goals are clear

  2. Feedback immediate

  3. Balance between opportunity and capacity

  4. Concentration deepens

  5. The present is what matters

  6. Control is no problem

  7. Sense of time is altered

  8. Loss of ego

What do you mean by flow?  "Being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved, and you're using your skills to the utmost."   Wired Magazine issue 4.09 September 1996

Read a review of a public lecture presented by Professor Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi in Sydney on 17 March 1999, organized by the School of Leisure & Tourism Studies at the University of Technology Sydney.  In which he discusses and describes "Flow".

 

"If you give a team member customer feedback, you focus them for a day.  If you teach a team member how to "ask" for customer feedback, you focus them for a lifetime!"
